Globally available for OEM use, HelioLux provides systems engineers with a cost-effective, fully certified, high-power, and field-tested illumination source ready to go for their new designs. TechniQuip created this modern lighting solution for companies developing products in demanding fields like surgical imaging, semiconductor inspection, life science applications, and other microscopy and machine vision-related fields.
“For over 50 years, TechniQuip has learned a tremendous amount about the lighting challenges that industry faces and the value that is assigned to durable, reliable, high-performance equipment. We put that accumulated knowledge to work in a year-long team effort to develop a superior lighting system. It was a truly collaborative effort integrating mechanical design, electrical design, firmware engineering, industrial design, and, most importantly, optical design. The resulting HelioLux product is truly positioned to earn a spot as the best light for the money,” said David Wensley, TechniQuip’s President and CEO.
HelioLux’s operation stems from optimized control features that maximize light power, quality, stability, and reliability, including:
- 10-bit superfine resolution: Driver controls power in 1 millivolt increments, or less than ½ lumen
- Up to 30 amps / 108 watts of power: Electrical delivery topology that uses a powerful and compact integrated power solution
- Extended component lifespan: A core DC/DC conversion device with greater than 95% efficiency, reducing waste heat, and robust QFN packaging that maximizes cooling
- Advanced dimming for truly flicker-free operation: Pulse width modulation (PWM) with a stable, direct current
- Calibration to each particular LED: A proprietary manufacturing process that matches DC output range to each LED, ensuring that each dimming step results in a meaningful change in optical power
- Consistent range of power, independent of LED variation: Firmware calibrated at the factory based upon the actual current each LED draws for a range of voltages applied
- Tailored response curves: Activation of internal code, allowing for simple changes to the response to dimming inputs, including photopic, constant power, or constant current modes
- Full certification: UL certified to IEC 60601 and IEC 62471 standards with a CB scheme for CE compliance
Additional capabilities include local or remote control, robust fault monitoring and handling, multi-unit master/slave configuration for large-scale systems, LCD display, and troubleshooting features. Control is achieved by front panel controls via a USB/RS232 interface.
Beta testing of the product began in semiconductor inspection markets in late 2014, with a rollout to the medical beta customers in 2016, thereby providing today’s customers with the assurance of a field-proven design.
